TRAUMA / EMDR

Counseling For Trauma Using EMDR in Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Woodland HIlls, CA.

You have been talking about the same things in therapy for the past few years with no resolve. You wonder if you are ever going to get over the feeling of not being good enough. You have a sinking feeling something bad is about to happen even when everything in your life is going well. It’s frustrating that no matter what you do, that baseline level of angst and anxiety doesn’t go away. You see the dysfunctional patterns in your relationships and notice that you tend to be drawn to people who end up hurting you, but you don’t know how to stop it from happening.

I know firsthand how much our past can impact the way we see ourselves. Sometimes we are even fully aware of how our past wounds are in the background directing our life, but even then, it can be hard to ignore the critical or destructive voices in our heads. One of the things I like most about using EMDR is that the results are tangible. Seeing someone’s face, body, and tone of voice go from pain and anguish to embodying a sense of groundedness and peace is beyond incredible. Witnessing this continues to be one of the most rewarding parts of doing therapy and trauma work. It’s needless to stay stuck in a place of feeling unsafe, unloved, and not good enough when that doesn’t have to be your reality anymore.

I want nothing more than to help you feel at home again in your body and not on edge. We will work together to reset your nervous system and your self sabotaging belief systems.. We will work on letting go of feeling “not good enough”, realizing we only feel this way because of what we experienced, not because it’s true. When you no longer live life with a sinking feeling that something is wrong with you, you suddenly don’t care as much about what others think about you  and that is so freeing. Sometimes when people have relationship or abandonment trauma it can have you attract dysfunctional relationships which can bring more chaos into your life. I call this ‘little t trauma”, and sometimes it’s those types of wounds that can cause the most damage in our lives. Shedding the thoughts and feelings that are part of your trauma and aren’t really about you

What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is an amazing modality of therapy that I use to help people who are struggling with depression, trauma, and anxiety. You sit on a chair across from me while I move my hands or use binary beats as you move your eyes back and forth. This can easily be done virtually as well.  It allows you to process past traumatic experiences that are continuing to negatively impact  your life and how you feel about yourself. EMDR is the first choice of treatment for veterans with PTSD, and can also help people who have experienced abuse of any kind, including emotional abuse, bullying, accidents, attachment trauma, and children of alcoholics/ dysfunctional family of origin issues. It has a long-standing record of successfully treating trauma in many different forms.  It may sound crazy, but it works!
